The Mirror, September 9, 1998, Wednesday

SECTION: FEATURES; Pg. 32

LENGTH: 291 words

HEADLINE: IS IT REALLY GOOD FOR YOU?;
GET TURNED-ON TO TRADITIONAL METHODS;
NEW BOOK CLAIMS TRADITIONAL METHODS ARE BETTER AT SOLVING OFFICE PROBLEMS

BYLINE: Kevan Reilly

BODY:

THERE'S a glamorous hi-tech solution for almost every office problem these days.

But according to a new book you may be better off doing things the old-  fashioned way.

Author Anthony Capstick reckons that IT - Information Technology - often causes more problems than it solves. And he advises companies not to use technology if the job can be done as easily by traditional methods.

Yet Capstick is no Luddite. "Information technology can really change your life," he says, "as long you remain its master, not its servant".

The advice appears in his book How To Change Your Life With Technology.

It aims to cure people of their techno-fears by taking them through computers step by step.

Capstick, 40, started his own firm with pounds 1,000 and one computer in his bedroom seven years ago.

Now information company Instant Search has sales of pounds 250,000 a year and a staff of six.

His book explains how best to set up an office and which of the latest gadgetry is likely to be useful.

Capstick includes a guide to computer speak, explaining such terms as DAT, forum, and HTTP; as well as a look at how Internet and email can be used for business.

The book, which costs pounds 12.99, is available by calling its publishers, Management Books 2000, on 01285 760722, or through Instant Search on 01200 443935 or on the Internet at www.instant-search.com.
